Samsung Electro-Mechanics Deploys i2 SCM to Gain Visibility and Shorten Planning Cycle

SCM suite implemented at three SEM divisions at one time

DALLAS and SEOUL -- August 9, 2004

i2 Technologies, Inc. (OTC: ITWO), a leading provider of closed-loop supply chain management solutions, today announced that Samsung Electro-Mechanics Corporation (SEM) has deployed i2 Supply Chain Management (SCM) in order to improve supply chain visibility.

SEM has implemented i2’s solutions at the same time in three of SEM’s divisions: Multi-Layered Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) division, Ball Grid Array (BGA) division, and Optical Pickup Device division. SEM’s goals in this project are to improve on-time delivery ratio, inventory level, and forecast accuracy by shortening planning cycle time from monthly basis to weekly by applying the i2 SCM solution suite.

“We believe i2 SCM gives us the opportunity to highly improve our business practice,” said Bang Hwan Chung, vice president (CIO) of SEM. “By using i2 SCM, we intend to install a unified global business process in three divisions, which would be a very difficult job without i2 SCM. We will pursue process innovation and believe we gain global competitiveness with i2 SCM.”

SEM deployed i2 SCM, which includes i2 Demand Manager, Supply Chain Planner, Factory Planner, and Demand Fulfillment. The project ended in early 2004 and this is the first i2 go-live for SEM. The company is now implementing i2 SCM in three additional divisions. SEM’s main customer is Samsung Electronics, which has been using i2 since 1997. Both companies are in the Samsung Group.

“Samsung is a world leader in electronics and devices. As its business grows rapidly, leveraging its vertical integration is becoming a key differentiator against competitors. Samsung has moved one step closer to optimizing its supply chain as SEM goes live with i2 SCM.  We are very pleased with what we accomplished with the SEM team,” said Won-Joon Hyoung, leader of i2 Korea.
